First, thank you to all of you who voted. It was great to see a turnout similar to all recent referendums despite voting taking place during exams. 1,879 Trinity Students cast their vote, on the fourth count “Student Loan Scheme” lost to “Student Contribution/Registration Fee (currently €2250)” you can see the full results of the TCD vote here. 18 students representing TCDSU voted according to this result in the national vote at USI Special Congress.
Last Wednesday, USI held a meeting in UCD to determine the overall winner to form the basis of its fees policy. 180 delegates cast votes including the 18 TCD delegates.
The final results were as follows:
Non-Transferable Votes: 4
100% Exchequer: 95 (+5)
Student Contribution: 81 (+1)
100% Exchequer deemed victorious

USI officers now are tasked with creating a USI policy on “the funding of higher education taught programmes” that advocates 100% exchequer funding. All SUs that are members of USI will be expected to facilitate the implementation of this policy unless they have policy in place from their SU council that contradicts it. TCDSU is currently a member of USI and has no contrary policy.
